PROFIsafe

PROFIsafe is the safety protocol which is a part of the communication protocols of both PROFIBUS and PROFINET, This can now eliminate the need for a separate safety network and reduce their industrial network architectures to a single bus. PROFIsafe extends the standard PROFIBUS/PROFINET communications protocol to address special requirements for safety related information necessary to conform to strict safety standards.

ASIsafe

ASIsafe (AS-Interface Safety at Work) enables the integration of fail-safe components to an AS-Interface network, such as: emergency stop push buttons, safety door switches and safety light arrays . These are fully compatible with the renowned AS-Interface components (masters, slaves, power supply units, etc.) in accordance with EN 50 295 and can be operated together (safety & standard) on the yellow AS-Interface cable or using a round cable.

Micro

The IM 151-7 F-CPU safety SIMATIC interface module for the ET 200S is designed to meet the demands of the lower performance range. The intelligent ET 200S station can be used as stand-alone without a DP master or PROFIBUS cable. As an intelligent slave station, it can be used for distributed expansion of both safety and standard PROFIBUS DP masters.

Mid-Range

The safety SIMATIC S7-300F CPUs are designed for the mid to upper performance range, allowing both standard and safety-relevant tasks to be performed with only one CPU. The S7-300F CPUs can be expanded centrally with the safety modules for the ET 200M I/O. Communication on the CPU can be handled through MPI, PROFIBUS or PROFINET Interface.

High-Range

The safety SIMATIC S7-400F CPU is designed for the highest performance range, allowing both standard and safety-relevant tasks to be performed with only one CPU. Multiprocessor operation is also possible. The S7-400F CPUs can be expanded in distributed configurations with the safety I/O modules of the ET 200S, ET 200M, ET 200pro (IP67) or the safety digital block peripheral device ET 200eco (IP67).

Small/ Low Density Safety

The ET 200S is used for distributed expansion of the safety S7 controllers and the ET 200S station can hold both safety and standard input and output modules. In addition to safety input and output modules, the ET 200S product line also includes safety frequency converters, motor starters, power modules, contact multipliers and interface modules.

High Density Safety

The line of safety input and output modules for the ET 200M peripheral I/O station is used for the centralized expansion of the SIMATIC S7-300F or distributed expansion of the safety S7 controllers. An ET 200M station can accommodate both standard and safety input and output modules.

Block Safety

The safety digital block peripheral device ET 200eco is for the distributed expansion of the safety S7 controllers IP65/67 protection enables cabinet-less distribution.

Modular Safety

The ET 200pro, with its modular structure and flexible connection abilities is used for distributed expansion of the safety S7-Controller via PROFIBUS or PROFINET. The ET 200pro spectrum contains a high channel digital input module and a hybrid module with digital inputs and outputs, as well as an F-Switch for fail-safe disconnection of standard I/O modules and motor starters.

Laser Scanners

All-around protection up to Category 3 (according to EN 954-1) is promised by Siemens optical distance sensors. With a working angle of 190° over a distance of up to 4.0 m (in non-safety applications up to 15 m), the laser scanner reliably detects any object or person. Commanding & Signaling

From two-hand operation consoles for providing the highest security at presses or punching machines to cable-operated switches for automatic arrest using a pull wire, control and signaling devices help stop machines and plants before things get out of control. SIRIUS control and signaling devices can be made communication-capable via AS-Interface.

Detecting

Siemens SIRIUS detecting devices designed for use in safety circuits can be used in detection applications up to EN 954-1 Category 4 and SIL3 according to IEC 62061. Different switch types are available to handle a variety of applications.

Monitoring & Evaluating

SIRIUS interface / switching relays offer solutions from compact housing and DIN rail mounting to high-current switching capacities. Timing relays offer flexible input voltages and selectable time ranges. Manual override switches are also available to put a unit in bypass mode, which disables the process input signal and allows manual adjustment of the output signal for analog signal simulation.

Safe Deactivating

SIRIUS safety contactors and control relays are available with permanently attached front mounted auxiliary contact blocks. Control relays meet or exceed the requirements specified in the IEC 60947-5-1 and the IEC 60947-4-1 standard for auxiliary devices. All devices are UL Listed and CE Marked.

Dedicated Safety Relays

The next available technology is dedicated safety relays. These are hardwired and cater to specific applications such as e-stops , laser scanners or light curtains. These are relay systems perform simple diagnostics and can perform simple logic like muting or timing. Diagnostics and status of these relays are hardwired back to the PLC to inform the operator of what is going on in the safety circuit of the application. These relays are great when the amount of safety points in the application are small in numbers and functionality.

Networked Safety Relay Systems

Networked safety relay systems is the next available technology. This is new and uses a specialized industrial network to allow distribution of these relays across different parts of the machine. This technology offers some basic logic functions and high levels of diagnostics back to the PLC or operator panels via the safety field bus.

Dedicated Safety PLCs

Safety PLCs are very flexible since the input cards on the PLC rack replace the dedicated safety relays. It also offers high level of programming via ladder logic which is what control engineers are already familiar with. Programming of the safety logic is now performed in software rather than manipulation of hardwiring. Safety PLCs are a very good fit for applications that have existing standard PLCs and require large amount of safety points.
